User Gets Login Prompt Even When Not Actively Using Sharepoint

Hi,
The user is on Windows XP, Office 2003 and we use WSS. I searchd several
sites and could not find this issue anywhere.
This user gets many login prompts for about 30 minutes when he first
connects to the LAN each morning. The prompt looks like
sharepointservername\username and then a password. Not the three field login
WSS displays.
This happens even when he has not opened any WSS site. Even if the user
enters his LAN password or changes it to LANdomain\username and then enters
his LAN password he still gets the prompt continuosly for about 30 minutes.
He does have a network place back to a shared document library that is
created when he edits a document. I deleted this yesterday and the system
recreated it the way it should. But today he got the prompts again.
I'm thinking this prompt is caused by the network place link. Sort of like
having a mapped drive that uses a different username/password than your LAN
info. You'll get a prompt when you first connect. But then why does it do it
contiuosly for 30 minutes???
Dave
