Re: Documents opening in Read Only mode

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello all...

Thanks for the suggestions so far, but unfortunately, no change!

Just to confirm Mike/Colin - I've now tried opening various files using
these methods:

Clicking "Edit in Microsoft Office Word" on the drop-down menu
Clicking "Edit in Microsoft Office Word" button on the document properties
page
Opening the file using explorer view
Opening the file directly from Word

All seem to result in the file being read-only.

Mike - I've also tried uploading new documents to various stores, which
works fine. Opening the files again (using the methods described above)
still results in a Read-Only lock.

I'm currently with both domain admin rights and full SharePoint
administrator rights, so permissions shouldn't be an issue. Also - none of
the documents have rights management turned on - they edit fine on the
desktop (once I've copied/moved it out of the store). The document store is
used only by myself, so I don't think it's a "checked out" issue.

John - I've also tried out your recommendations - the symptoms definitely
sound the same as what you describe, but I can't get your fix to work. I
was trying to open "http://companyweb/technical documents" (I note the
default.aspx doesn't work), and the files show up fine in an explorer-like
window, but I'm still getting the read-only issue.

If there are any further suggestions - they'd be much appreciated... This
is not work-stopping (I just copy the documents out of the store, edit, and
then upload and overwrite the old ones), but it is somewhat annoying...!

Many thanks!

Stan.
