Penny,
Not knowing the details of your migration, I will make an educated guess.
It sounds like a permissions issue to me. It could be that WSS is
attempting to connect to the SQL database under the credentials it was setup
with, but these credentials are not valid in SQL. You would be able to
manipulate the database in Enterprise Manager because it runs under your
logged in credentials.
I would start by verifying the credentials under which WSS runs has
permissions to the database.
