Paul,

Thank you for directing us to KB823377.

We tryed this solution and it did not work. During the setup dialog when we
get to the 'Installation Selection' page the selection referenced in KB823377
was grayed out. That is to say the 'Upgrade, remove, or add components to an
existing instance of SQL Server' radio button was there - but it was grayed
out.

Is there a decent tool or feature for the MSDE infrastructure that does an
import/export. Oracle, SUN and MYSQL seem to have professional solutions for
import/export (OK ... its a dig but I need to vent).

Microsoft seems to be going with stsadm.exe and other command line utilites
that do not address import/export or any other kind of open architecture
interop. This is why, in this post, I wanted to focus on only WSS features.

Apparently WSS DOES NOT SUPPORT SQL Server since it has no tool (that we
have seen) to export/import/upgrade the database. You have to use SQL Server
tools as another step to get WSS to a scalable solution.

Thanks again for you input and help however as this helps our analysis of
the WSS platform usability.
