No access to WSS site, error received

One external person got the message below when he tried to access my WSS
site. There was no logon box, only that message. He is using Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 6.0.
I have looked different places for an answer without luck. Anybody has an
idea what is the reason?

The message:

You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the
credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a
WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to
accept.
