Sorry Kathleen but you are wrong.

Both versions of Office (and Office 2K) allow opening documents (i.e. by
clicking on them) and it depends on client IE settings if these sometimes
open in the browser and sometimes in the program. (Always in the program
would mean an amendment had been made to the server).

The place where a different Office version would make a difference would be
in WSS using "Edit in Microsoft Word" or "Edit in Microsoft Excel". However
even this functinality is available to both Office 2003 and Office XP BUT
NOT for Office 2K.

The upgrade to office 2003 from Office XP is advantageous but not for
opening / editing documents - however it does add a lot of other
functionality (interaction with Outlook / Word for meeting and document
workspaces; Upload Multiple Documents; Edit in Datasheet View etc.)

But for this question she should look at the different browser versions and
settings.
