After doing a search of the newsgroup (which I should have
done first, sorry) I found my 3 options. Can anyone
clarify if these are the only options available today?

    1) Buy Portal Server......the official Microsoft stance
    and probably a good option

    2) Radically change the stored procedures WSS uses. This
will of course almost null your supportability

    3) Write your own stored procedures. This is not as bad
but will require you to wireup your procs instead of
    Microsoft's
