WMSDE is different to MSDE. (less restricted usage for one)
However you can't install WMSDE unless you are installing to Win 2003 Server
rather than Web Edition. I presume this is why you are trying to use MSDE
with your WSS installed on Win 2003 Web Edition.
Basically you are trying to do something the MS doesn't want you to do (they
want you to either use W2K3 server with WMSDE/SQL Server or W2K3 Web Edition
with the database on a separate W2K Server) so getting support will be
difficult.
