sharepoint services? really confuced about it.....

Hello!

I havent't newer used sharepoint services. Now I just installed it to our
IIS. Now I'am confuced what should I do with this? Cant't just go anywhere
with it and do not know what this sharepoint services can give us?

Where to start? I tryed to do some self-service site creatinon, but it just
says to me that is can't be done becouse there is no site colection at "/"
on the virtual server. What is that? What should I do?

Is there somewhere good startup tutorial to sharepoint services? Is the
sharepoint services same as sharepoint server?
