Lookup Calculated Field

I have to lists in my sharepoint. One is a list of contacts (not
belonging to the sharepoint) and the other is a log of items they can
be associated to. Right now there is a lookup column in the log for
users to pick the last name of the 'contact' they want it associated
with. Suddenly, we have two contacts with the same last name
(bummer). I created a concatenated column in the contacts list to join
the first and last names into one field, however when I go to create a
"lookup" column in the log, the calculated field does not appear as an
option for its source. I can't for the life of me figure out how to
fix this. Any ideas?
