I direct you - if you will - to both the "old" newsgroups and the "new"
newsgroups.

The old newsgroups still get a lot of traffic and are a good source of
information about the current products because they (unlike the new
newsgroups) are indexed by Google Groups and of course because they contain
lots of information from the past three years (which the new newsgroups
don't)

But I'll confess at the same time that this message is a message I wrote
before the new newsgroup appeared and to which I just added the new
newsgroups (at the end) when they started.

OK, Engelbert, why is the group you have directed us to under a heading
"Defunct groups"? Makes me think that not many questions are answered
there
either.

This should of course have been titled as above ...

All people waiting for replies to questions should note that this
newsgroup is the newsgroup for the 2001 product SharePoint Team
Services
(STS). If you aren't posting a question about STS you won't get an
answer
here. (Even if you are posting about STS it would be better to post it
to
the WSS newsgroup (see below) marked STS in the subject line)

If you have default.aspx as the name of your home page then you are NOT
running SharePoint Team Services but either Windows SharePoint Services
or
SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (or possibly 2007 Beta 2 products)

If you have a question about web parts you are also not running STS but
one of the above two products.

If you have a question about Form Libraries you are not running STS.

Having your templates under the STS directory also does *not* mean you
are
running SharePoint Team Services. (There is a directory STS in Windows
SharePoint Services and in SharePoint Portal Server 2003).

Usually if you don't know which one of the above two products, you will
be
running Windows SharePoint Services (WSS).

It's newsgroup is

microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices (admin and end-user)

web access via:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices&lang=en&cr=US

OR

microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.development (programming)

web access via:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.development

More people are available there to help you with your WSS problems.

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is at

microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver (admin and end-user)

microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver.development (programming)

Web access via similar addresses to the above for WSS.

More people are available there to help you with your SPS 2003
problems.

Engelbert

P.S.Nor, by the way, does it have anything to do with Team Foundation
Server or any of the Beta 2 (2007 SharePoint or Office products)!

If you are using the 2007 Beta of either SPS = MOSS 2007 or WSS = WSS
v3
then post to one of the four newsgroups (for both products) depending
on
what your problem is *but say in the Subject which product/version you
are
using*

The new newsgroups are

microsoft.public.sharepoint.setup_and_administration
microsoft.public.sharepoint.design_and_customization
microsoft.public.sharepoint.development_and_programming
and (for questions that don't fit any of the above)
microsoft.public.sharepoint.general

Thanks.
