He actually got an answer (from me) on the day he posted. I recommended at
this stage upgrading the server to 2003 and installing WSS. My sig - then as
now - also included the address of the STS FAQ and in the text I mentioned
how STS was available.
I think the terminology in your message is wrong as far as MSDE goes. As far
as I know the original MSDE was ver 1.0 (the one used with a default STS
installation) and the successor MSDE 2.0 (i.e. these names do not match the
equivalent SQL Server versions 7 and 2K).
If I were installing it today I would just leave it at the default MSDE 1.0
rather than going to the trouble of not doing a default installation and
connecting it to MSDE 2.0 - but that's a moot point as I wouldn't install it
today !
