SharePoint Central Administration page not working

A collegue of mine has moved our Sharepoint Team Services sites to new
hardware. Ever since then, 2 things have broke. One is the search
funcitonality and the other is the ability to launch the SharePoint Central
Administration web page. When I try to launch it, I get the following:
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is
currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser
to retry your request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific
request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server.
Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.
Unfortunately there is no events in the log that tell me why this is
failing. My collegues is convinced that this is SQL related. I disagree.
When he moved the sites to the new server he also changed the name of the
server. Bottom line is I need to get the Sharepoint Central Administration
running so I can setup searches. This is running a SQL 2000 database.
