Link to a Document content type -> folders on the network share

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

The Link to a Document content type lets you link to an http:// URL. We have
a workaround to change that to a file:// URL by entering http:// first and
going back in and changing it.

Unfortunately, you cannot link to a folder on the network share. Is there
any content type or solution that can add links to a folder on the network
share to a document library.

The only thing I can think of it to put an HTML page that contains the link
to the folder URL but that would be two clicks.

Thanks!
