Re: 70-630 Sharepoint 2007 Technical Specialist Exam next week

My company requires various certifications, primarily because of the
benefits offered by the solution company. They get marketing dollars,
leads, invitations to participate in events etc.

My purpose for getting certifications is that if forces a well
defined
set of topics to study, especially early on in the experience cycle,
alowing me to get up to speed more effectively.

As far as value to clients, it something the salespeople heavily push,
but has only a minor influence in a client's decision.

As far as hiring someone to work in our firm, a certification helps
reassure me that the person's knowledge has been confirmed, and
removes some of the burden for testing their technical product
knowledge,
but a hiring decsion involves more that just product knowldege
confirmaiton. You still need to know how to understand requirements,
match up with functionality, and translate both into a useful
solution.
That know-how comes from experience and other skills beyond what
the cert test checks.

So I don't think you can expect a flood of recuriter calls, a
promotion
to director of technical services, or Microsoft asking you to move to
redmond
to guide them, but generally, you will be assured and be able to
assure othres
that you are are technically capable, and understand how to make
SharePoint
work. With the number of consultants out there saying they do
sharepoint,
and demonstrating they, at most, can install it (in some fashion,
right or wrong)
some clients may place a higher value on certification eventually.

how much respect does the 70-630 Sharepoint 2007 Technical Specialist
Exam next week earn?  I am booked in to this early next week.

I work a lot with SharePoint and I am expected to demonstrate strong
tools knowledge by my clients and employer.

I don't have a technical background and no technical qualifications
apart from Microsoft Certified Professional: MS Project Server 2007 -
Managing Projects and Programs.
