Re: sign in once on FireFox

I am looking for something that will help the Mac folks not need to sign in multiple times. One time is ok.
They are not signing in the domain, so this FireFox setting won't help them.

So a Mac users loads Safari and signs in to see a site. It works fine. Then they go to the discussion board and have to sign in again to see someones icon. Anyway to avoid the 2nd login? Would any configuration of Single Sign on help (using NTML authentication)?

Thanks

Hello Superbrown,

It's client authentication related issue, so the configuration task is relied on the client side as both Firefox and Safari would be using Basic authentication by
default. Daniel shows the correct method to configure Firefox to use NTLM authentication. This can also be found at:

Firefox asks for user name and password on internal sites
http://support.mozilla.com/en-us/kb/Firefox+asks+for+user+name+and+password+on+internal+sites

Thank you very much for your information, Daniel.

For the Mac Safari, you may need to contact the Apple support for more detailed information as it's a third party application which we don't know when it will
support NTLM authentication. But based on my research, I find Safari 3 Beta Update 3.0.4 for Windows starts to support NTLM. Please see:

Hi Super1,
Go to your Firefox address bar and type: about:config.

This will bring up the internal config editor, which allows you to set all
kinds of properties that influence Firefox's behavior.

Look for the key called network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris.

Set that key's value to a comma separated list of servers you want NTLM auth
for.

You can also add the same value to the key
network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris.

It's unclear to me if that second one is required, but I set it, and
everything works.

Not so obvious but it works!

Intranet users using IE have the sharepoint site listed in their machines
Intranet Sites. They don't even need to sign in.

FireFox or Mac users don't have this, so they have to sign in on each
site. It gets real annoying when someone has a picture for their profile,
and you go to a discussion board. You have to sign in again just to get
that thumbnail picture of their dog or cartoon character.

Any way to improve this and have them sign in only once but be able to
move from one site collection to another?

Thanks
