Re: SharePoint Upgrade Question

At the moment WSS 3.0 with Search Server 2008 Express seems to be in
most cases a better solution than even MOSS 2007 search.

Two things to watch out for with MSSX

a) you can only run it on a single server WSS system.

b) if you use it with the basic installation it installs its own
database system that - unlike the one that comes with the WSS 3.0 basic
installation (WID) - *does* have the 4GB database size limit. So your
search database can't be bigger than 4GB.

Again this (b) is only the version when it's using its own database
system not when using full SQL Server 2005.

Good answer though.

You could also use WSS 3.0 with Search Server 2008 express edition (if
you need good search functionality in WSS 3.0)
Install Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express:

So currently the company I work for is using WSS and we're thinking
about upgrading. Is there a good comparision chart that compares all
of the different versions of SharePoint that someone might have/know
of one. I'm thinking that we might only need to go to MOSS 2007 or
maybe MOSS 2007 for Search, but I'm a little confused with all of the
many versions and the specific features.
Please help. Thanks.- Hide quoted text -

Sorry. 3.0. Always seem to forget there's an older version.

Thanks Daniel. That Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express looks like it
might do the job in regards to what we want to enhance in SharePoint.
And it being free is even better. Thanks again.

Thanks. Got MSSX installed, but seem to be stuck. So I go into the
"Central Administration Web site" and it says "Server Farm
Configuration Not Complete". I've into the "Manage Web Applications
Features" on the Central Admin Web site and activated everything for
both web applications? Any idea?

Thanks,
Jason
