Site Collection and Site Directory

Hi,

I'm new to Office SharePoint 2007. Two requests have come in from
users who would like to create a team site for the projects they work
on. I have moss installed and am at the point where I can create a
team site. I'm however not sure where I should do it. I see two
locations. One is via the SharePoint Administrator as a site
collection (sharepont.com/sites/) and the other location is via the
main sharepoint front page in the site directory (sharepoint.com/
SiteDirectory)

What is the best place to create new team sites? What is the
difference between Site Collection and Site Directory areas of MOSS.

This might be a newbie question.

Thanks,
Mike
