I suspect this is the Login settings on their IE..
If the site is regarded as an Intranet site (and if they have default
settings) then the default "Automatic Login in Intranet" comes into place.
This would apply for instance if they are using http://serveranme
If however there are "."s in the name of the site URL - so they are
using http://name.company.com for instance, IE regards it as an Internet
site and login is not automatic.
To make it so go to the Internet security zone in IE and specify there
"Login using current name and password" and the login requirement to the
site should go away.

P.S. If you then have an authentication request on opening a document
that you want to avoid, put the site in Trusted Sites (for IE6/XPPro) or
Intranet zone (IE7/Vista)

I setup SharePoint Portal 2007 server in the domain. I have created a
Documents library site. For some reason every time users try to reach the
site, IE on their machines’ ask for login credentials; once you enter the
credentials that are identical to their interactive Windows session, they are
allowed into the site.
I get the same popup for credential if I try to get to the document library
while being logged into the SharePoint server itself via Remote Desktop
utility or local console.
Client machines are the members of the same Active Directory domain as
SharePoint Portal 2007 server. I've tried to change Authentication Providers
(Central Administration\Application management) from Kerberos to NTLM; but
unfortunately no lock. I have verified that IIS is configured with
"Integrated Windows Authentication".
Can anybody tell me why user credentials are not being passed automatically
from their Windows session so that they can get to the Documents Library site
without being asked to authenticate? What should I do to fix it ?
Thanks!
