configured and with the right permissions to SQL Server.
Also make sure this accounts are configured correctly in the IIS application
pools

then follow this steps:

1. Backup ContentDB in SQL Server using SQL Managagement Studio
2. Restore the ContentDB from step 1 to new env.
3. Install SharePoint on new env.
4. Create a web application using the central administration tool
5. Create a new site collection with a new ContentDB
6. Configure the new web application to use the restored ContentDB
7. Create a new SearchDB or restore the old one and attach it to new
SharePoint.

Too many acronyms today. Right now I'm working on a MOSS 2007 restore.

I backed up a farm that was all on one box with sql server 2005. I'm
restoring to a new environment that has an AD, sql 2005, and a
sharepoint server. I'm using the built in restore tool to do the
restore. I keep getting an error message:

<DB> failed in event OnRestore. For more information, see the error
log located in the backup directory. SqlException: Cannot open backup
device &#39;<path>\spbr0000\00000017.bak&#39;. Operating system error
3(The system cannot find the path specified.). RESTORE DATABASE is
terminating abnormally.

This message shows up for all the content db's, the search db, and the
shared service db. I've ended up putting everyone full permissions on
the share on the db server (reference via unc) put the SA sql account
in the administrators group, and used various different accounts to
get this done but nothing seems to work.

I've been reading through this newsgroup to find another way to get
this done or if I'm even doing it right.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

I'm a few months new to the sharepoint world. I've got several
implementations coming up where I'll be taking an SSP 3.0 Portal from
a customer site and bringing them into our hosting data centre. I've
been looking at several options to do this.

I'm testing a full farm backup building an empty clone environment
then restoring the full farm backup. I keep running into permission
errors. Access to certain files in the directory is denied. I'm logged
in as domain admin and unsure as to why i'm receiving these errors.

Questions:

1) Is backup/restore the best way to go about this?

2) If so, why am I receiving the permission errors?
