\par
\par This problem may occur when SQL Server 2005 is not configured to accept remote connections. By default, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition do not allow remote connections.
\par
\par To configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remote connections, complete all the following steps:
\par 1. Enable remote connections on the instance of SQL Server that you want to connect to from a remote computer.
\par 2. Turn on the SQL Server Browser service.
\par 3. Configure the firewall to allow network traffic that is related to SQL Server and to the SQL Server Browser service.
\par
\par The following article describes how to complete each of these steps.

\par
\par I hope it will be helpful.

\par These are some excellent directions and seem to be just what I need. Thanks
\par a ton. I have hit a snag though...
\par
\par The service SQL Server 2005 Embedded Edition is not listed in the services.
\par There are several entries for SQL though. (I am sure it is using the
\par express edition that comes with MOSS 07.)
\par
\par On a test server I did the following.
\par sqlcmd -S \\\\.\\pipe\\mssql$microsoft##ssee\\sql\\query -E
\par
\par I get the error
\par
\par HResult 0x2, Level 16, State 1
\par Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].
\par Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while
\par establi
\par shing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this
\par failu
\par re may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does
\par not
\par allow remote connections..
\par Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.
\par
\par
\par When I look at the SQL Server Configuration Manager I see the name
\par OFFICESERVERS. Should I reference that in the command listed above?
\par
\par Thanks again.
