Re: Search about pdf format

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi all

It's work now! By restart the crawl search again at search setting in Shared
Service Provider. It will search into the content of pdf file.

BTW, If i would like to highlight the required word or show that word in Red
font format, how can i configure in the SharePoint central administration
site?

Thanks in advance

I have already done by this following steps

*************************

Add the following registry entry, and then set the registry entry value to
pdf:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
Extensions\12.0\Search\Applications\<GUID>\Gather\Search\Extensions\ExtensionList\38
To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit,
and then click OK.
b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
Extensions\12.0\Search\Applications\GUID\Gather\Search\Extensions\ExtensionList
c. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
d. Type 38, and then press ENTER.
e. Right-click the registry entry that you created, and then click Modify.
f. In the Value data box, type pdf, and then click OK.

3. Verify that the following two registry subkeys are present and that they
contain the appropriate values.

Note These registry subkeys and the values that they contain are created
when you installed the Adobe PDF IFilter on the server. •
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
Extensions\12.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\Extension\.pdf
This registry subkey must contain the following registry entry:• Name: Default
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: {4C904448-74A9-11D0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
Extensions\12.0\Search\Setup\Filters\.pdf
This registry subkey must contain the following registry entries: • Name:
Default
Type: REG_SZ
Data: (value not set)
• Name: Extension
Type: REG_SZ
Data: pdf
• Name: FileTypeBucket
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0x00000001 (1)
• Name: MimeTypes
Type: REG_SZ
Data: application/pdf

4. Upload the PDF documents to the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site.
5. Stop and then start the Windows SharePoint Services Search service. To do
this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. Stop the Windows SharePoint Services Search service. To do this, type
net stop spsearch at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
c. Start the Windows SharePoint Services Search service. To do this, type
net start spsearch at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
d. Type exit to exit the command prompt.

********************************************

Also,I replace the spsearch with osearch for both of step 5b and 5c but it
can not search the word in pdf file. Have any idea?

Thanks in advance

Hi all

I have tried to find out the way for searching the content or word in pdf
file and I have followed the process as belows but i still can not get the
result from searching in MOSS 2007 in case of word in pdf format.

*********************************

1. Download Adobe iFilter 6 here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2611

2. Install Adobe iFilter on the Indexing Server (SharePoint Server 2007)
3. Add it to the File Type in the SSP
a. In Central Administration click on Application Management
b. Under Office SharePoint Server Shared Services click: Create or
configure this farm's shared services
c. Click on the defualt SSP
d. Under Search click Search settings
e. Under Crawl Settings click File Types
f. Click New File Type and add pdf

4. Add PDF Icon:
a. Switch to the folder that contains the Adobe PDF Filter 6.0 files.
For
example, switch to the following folder:
Drive:\Program Files\Adobe\PDF IFilter 6.0
b. Type regsvr32.exe pdffilt.dll, and then press ENTER.
c. If you receive a message that the operation was successful, click OK
.
d. Copy the .gif file that you want to use for the icon to the following
folder on the server:
Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\12\Template\Images

Icon can be found here (use 17 x 17 one):
http://www.adobe.com/misc/linking.html
e. Edit the Docicon.xml file to include the .pdf extension. To do so:
Start Notepad, and then open the Docicon.xml file.
Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server
extensions\12\Template\Xml
f. Add an entry for the .pdf extension. For example, where
NameofIconFile
is the name of the .gif file:
<Mapping Key="pdf" Value="NameofIconFile.gif"/>
g. On the File menu, click Save, and then quit Notepad.

5. Start a Full Crawl
a. Follow steps 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d above
b. Under Crawl Settings click Content sources and crawl schedules
c. Click the little arrow icon next to your Shared Serrvice (Default
name
is: Local Office SharePoint Server Sites) and click Start Full Crawl

Or it is related about full text search, I am no idea about that point.
Have
anyone know the solution about this problem?

Thanks in advance
