Picking up the "basic" question. (It's not that basic). The problem usually
is (I don't think it has changed in v3 but you never know) that when you
move a document anywhere it loses both versions and its original time stamp
(and the person who uploaded).

I have a feeling there is a third-part migration tool that preserves these
but someone else will have to help me/you with that (Tsunami?).

I have a list of the SharePoint v3 books here

http://www.asaris.de/sites/Walsh/Lists/WSSv3%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

(and there's a link from that page to v2 books).

The only v3 books (and 2 DVD courses) that are out at the moment are those
marked "*released*" in the main body of the page and for which there are
icons along the right-hand-side.

You will in any case need to have the Administrator's Companion (second icon
from top) so I would get that. I would for the time being ignore the 1st,
3rd and 4th icons as they are mainly for developers (and perhaps ignore the
DVD courses for their cost - $299 and $399 respectively) but the final icon
is a general book that might also be useful to you at this stage (but only
in addition to the Administrator's Companion).

Aside: I have the first book (i.e. first icon) and it assumes imo previous
SharePoint knowledge (i.e. of earlier versions). I am waiting for the second
book to arrive (2nd icon) but will then probably pause until the MVP book
(item 37) comes out (some people will understand a grin at this point)
because it will take that long to work seriously through the first two.

Thank you very much Mike for your speedy reply.

So with multiple document libraries, if a document was uploaded to the
wrong library, is there a way of moving the document and its many
versions within SharePoint or do you have to delete it and upload it
again? I am sure this is a basic training question so hope you can
humour me on this

As you may have guessed, we have a lot of planning and thought needed
to go into this still. What books / literature would you suggest we
invest in? There seems to be a lot out there and indeed your excellent
site indicates this too.

Many thanks indeed

Hi Mike

Thank you very much indeed for this comprehensive feedback. I was
indeed looking at the administrators book so will get that and the
other you recommended. As for the libraries, guess we just need to
implement an authorisation scheme to be sure the right documents are
saved to the right folders.

Really appreciate your help Mike, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

Speak again soon hopefully
Piers
