Hi all,

I have this weird error when i go to central admin on moss 2007 and
then click on either operations or application management.

"Some or all identity references could not be translated."

The history of this is the following:
1. we created a virtual pc with sql 2005 and then installed moss on
top.
2. when we setup moss we used service accounts from an AD (the vpc i
think was joined to the AD)
3. After we finished our engagement onsite we then brought the vpc and
changed the application pools, service accounts, etc to point to the
local administrators of the machine. (i think we joined the vpc to a
workgroup).
4. we go to central admin and we get the above error.

From what i can gather it seems to be a sql server problem? I tried to

backup the portal that i need to use through stsadm but i get the same
message so i can;t restore the solution on another box.

I could uninstall and reinstall sharepoint i guess and reconfigure
central admin. is that a viable solution? will i be able to reattach a
portal to central admin once I do that?

Any suggestions would be great!.

Thanks in advance.

Sergio

I've never run into this particular problem but it seems very risky to
install the server(s) using one set of accounts and then manually
changing them all afterwards.

My guess is that you should install it with the proper accounts to
begin with but I'm not sure how that would affect your current
installation.
