Resolving Update Conflicts

Hello,
We're currently having some trouble with our Office SharePoint Server 2007
RTM English Deployment in a test environment. Before testing some settings,
we performed a backup using the Central Administration Webpage, Full Backup
on Farm Level. Everything check out ok.
After performing the tests, we wanted to return to the backup, so we started
the restore proces. This proces, however, failed to restore the Shared
Services Provider. Upon consulting the Central Administration -> Shared
Services Administration, the Shared Services Provides is tagged with
"(Provisioning failed. See logs for details.)".
What's even more disturbing is that every change on "Application Management"
level we try to execute, we get an update conflict error message (see excerpt
from the trace log below). I believe the provisioning failure is tied to this
update conflict.
The previous update information contains in fact a timestamp of the moment
where I performed the backup through the Central Administration Site. The
current update information is the moment where I actually try to modify
anything, doesn't exactly matter what.
Moreover, the seperate backup we performed using SQL Server backup tools,
results in the same kind of error after a database restore.
Does anyone know how to resolve these update conflicts? Any kind of input is
most appreciated.
Kind regards,
Jo Jacobs
