thanx a lot for the reply RP
the concepts were really helpful
Actually i have Share Point server 3.0 and please tell me what are the
prerequisite for the installation and how will i basically install WSS
in Active Directory Mode with form authentication
as i am not able to perform the steps

Go To SharePoint Central Administration and change the Authentication
Provider for the Web Application

In SharePoint Central Administration, select Authentication Providers
under Applation Management's Application Security section.

Click the Defaul provider and modify the authentication Type to be
Forms authenitcation (make sure you have the right web application
selected)

Enable anonymous access and specify the name of the provider we placed
into the web.config file (in this case "ADProvider")

For public sites, I usually disable client integration

Go to to the site collection administrators on Aplication Management
and select the first administrators for the site from the domain
specified in the ldap connection string of the ADProvider

thanx a lot with regards

Looks at the following links:

1) Installing SharePoint 2007 in stand-alone mode from Microsoft:

http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/bd99c3a9-0333-4c1c-9793-a145769e48e61033.mspx

Once you install SharePoint 2007, create and configure SSP to use
domain authentication or active directory authentication (i have used
domain authentication and it works without any configuration).

2) If you would like to use it for forms based authentication, look at
the following URL:
