Re: Change Master Page of Publishing Content Page

Ok, again, thanks for your helpfull post. It helps to know that I'm
basically on track here.

I guess my question boils down to this...
Is there any way to keep a Publishing content page attached to a layout
which is configured to use the site master page, yet change the Master page
for that one particular Publishing content page?

Thanks,
B

That's great. Very helpful. I have a followup I hope maybe you can answer.
While I can now see the appropriate settings and make changes to the master
page of a particular content page, I'm seeing some interesting differences in
behaviors.

If a page is created within SP designer I can easily change the master page
attached to that individual page using SP designer and when I preview in
browser everything looks as expected with the new master page.

If a page is created from the SP web interfaces and is part of a Publishing
site, it is created from a page layout. The page layout is attached to a
master page and so all content pages derived from the layout are (by design
as I understand it) attached to the master page.

Your understanding is correct. But as an alternative you can try out
this. Go to
Site Settings->Master page. There you can set your own *custom master
page* as the
default master page and force the already created pages and new ones to
inherit that master
page. I hope that would help.

When I use SP designer to
change the master page of a content page created this way, the master page
never actually changes when it is rendered although SP designer does show
that it should be using the master page that I specified. Why? Is there any
way to change the master page of an individual content page when that content
page is part of a publishing site?

You can force an individual content page to detach from the layout page
using sharepoint
designer. This functionality is inbuilt using SPD. But I would suggest
you to create your
own custom layout page which will be using your new master page, and
let all your new pages inherit out of your custom layout page.

Hope that helps

When using the Publishing with Workflow site templage in MOSS 2007, I
can apply a master page to an entire site's conent pages using site
settings (simple stuff). What I need to do, is change the master
page for a single existing content page.

In Sharepoint Designer it seems as though you should be able to do
this, but, when attempting to do so, all the options are grayed out.

Is there a way to instruct a page to use a master page other than the
site default master?

Thanks,
Bernie

You can use the sharepoint designer. The options are greyed out because you
must be in contributor mode. Go To Tools->Contributor settings and check
Allow unlimited use of sharepoint designer.

Hope this helps
