Re: publishing MOSS 2007 for public access

Actually, my problem is not enabling anonymous access, but "publishing" MOSS
2007 on internet so that some of our clients can access our portal, be it
using a windows user id/pwd or anonymous, it really does not concern us at
this point but may well be needed in future.
We solved this issue in earlier version of Portal Server 2003 by taking
following steps:
1. Sharepoint Central Administration > Configure alternate portal site URLs
for intranet, extranet, and custom access > New Access setting > Here we
defined the extranet URL (lets say xyz.com) which our clients could use to
access our portal.
2. Then, we configured DNS to route all requests to xyz.com to a public IP
configured on our firewall and our firewall to route all incoming requests
on this public IP to the internal Portal Server IP Address.
It was a pretty simple procedure, but we are unable to find similar settings
in MOSS 2007. Can you please guide me on where can i find the "extranet and
custom access" settings in MOSS 2007?
thanks,
akhlaq.

anonymous access is meant to provide public acces to internet users. If
you have enabled the anonymous access, then users should be able to access
it over the internet. Are you still experiencing problems in setting up
the anonymous access?

thanks Ahmed!
these articles have been helpful in understanding enabling anonymous
access in MOSS 2007. but i am still having difficulty in setting it up
for Public Access through internet. is there an article that can walk me
through the steps showing the exact locations of settings?
thanks!

Hi,
we recently migrated from sharepoint portal 2003 to MOSS 2007 beta 2
technical
refresh.
In IIS, we have three Web Applications, which are:
1. Sharepoint central administration
2. My Sites on port 1476
3. Portal Site at port 80
Our main target is to configure public access to the main portal site
at
port 80. we want to give access to our clients (preferably using form
based
authentication otherwise windows authentication will be acceptable) and
anonymous users like job seekers to post their resume etc.
I found an article with similar objective at:
http://www.andrewconnell.com/blog/archive/2006/10/21/4953.aspx but it
did
not explicitly mention the location of the settings i need to
configure. Is
there a more detailed article or explanation somewhere on how to do
that?
Thanks,
Akhlaq.
