default mycompanyweb?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

We just installed SBS2003 on a brand new server. The installation
included (of course) IIS, SQL-Server and SharePoint services.

According to Microsoft's own book "Windows SBS 2003 Administrator's
Companion" by Charlie Russel et. al., Chapter 17 (customizing
SharePoint web sites) one should be able to "connect to the Web site
directly at http://mycompanyweb";. Figure 17-1 caption reads "The
default SharePoint site created by Windows Small Business Server" and
the figure shows what I as a reader believe to be a default site.

So... there is an expectation to get some kind of a default site right
out of the box. This is NOT the case, as someone noted noted in a
previous message, because SharePoint doesn't come with a default.html
page, let alone a default site...

Therefore, I seek advice how to create an initial SharePoint website
off which we can later create additional ones for the different groups
we service in our small CPA / Legal organization. Usage of a
downloadable template is preferred, although we have some mastery of
FrontPage if needed.

If you post a response on the Google newsgroup kindly send me a copy
via email, as I do not frequent the group often.

Thanks
Neal P.
