Re: Moving SPS 2003 from one server to another.

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Arrrrrrrrghhh.

OK so I got the first bit sorted. Now I have "restored" my portal to the new
server, but whenever I go to any of our subwebs I get this error.

The SubSites, Version=1.1.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=2715b3a91cb84b87 assembly specified in a Register directive of
this page could not be found.

Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to

Which I think means that the subwebs webpaart is now screwy. But I thought
that the subwebs webpart was part of the std install.

Nope it wasn't and in the end there were about 10 others that I had to hunt
down.

I think that I have them all now.

Thanks for everyones help.

DAVE

The very tired.

Pretty close to that simple.

Install SharePoint on the new server. Create a new configuration database
on your existing SQL server. Then click create a portal and then choose
restore a portal. Now point it at the 3 databases. Viola! You are done.
Depending on the you have made you may have some clean up to do. You will
also need to redraw all of your indexes but nothing too major.

Hope this helps

Yeah sorry about that it was very late after a long long day. Thanks for
the
quick reply.

We have one SPP server that has the data base on another server.

The sharepoint server has Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0 with
SP2
and Microsoft Office Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 installed. The server
is
2003 std with SP1. The database server is 2003 server std and the MS-SQL
instance is SQL server 2000.

What would be absolutely perfect is if I can just install WSS and SPS on
another box and just point it to the same database instance, but I don't
think that anything is going to be that simple.

:)

Thanks again in advance.

What is your current setup? Is everything on one box? do you have the
SQL
portion on its own server? Do you have multiple SPS servers? Hard to
point
you in the right direction without knowing your details. :)

All,

This is the story. We are moving our data centre to an offsite managed
facility. As part of this process we are replacing a large number of
our
servers. One of these is our Sharepoint box. What I now need to do is
migrate
the contents of our intranet from the old box to the new. I have done a
quick
scan of the microsoft site and cannot find anything yet that matches my
scenario for migration.

What I would really like to find is a cookbook on how to move from one
box
to another without breaking anything. If anyone knows where I can find
any
of
this stuff please reply to this post and point me in the right
direction.

Thanks in advance.
