Sharepoint URL Redirects?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on some kind of solution for my Sharepoint users so
that they can easily access department and division sites if they have to
type in the URL manually instead of navigating through our site directory.

Here¹s what I¹m interested in seeing:

For example, if the user types in the URL:
http://sharepoint.edcc.edu/Helpdesk, they will be redirected to
http://sharepoint.edcc.edu/sites/IT/CSS/Helpdesk.

Is something like this possible in Sharepoint? If so, how would I go about
implementing something like this?
