Re: stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://myportalurl

With much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and several sparepoint installations
later (including Base product->SP1 ->SP2) i'm still roughly in the same boat.

the stsadm command line now appears to be ok - previous problem may have
been due to an unnoticed typo (not convinced...), but I still have the
orginal problem regarding the initial error that started all this - namely
the error message "WebForm_PostBackOptions is undefined" that keeps popping
up.

When I create a site within a Portal site, the site itself is created OK, it
is the next page where you define a link to the site that the error message
displays as soon as you submit the form

argh!

Ken,

I went directly to SP2 - but I will try uninstalling the whole lot and
follow your suggestion, although the documentation did seem to suggest that
the service packs for the Portal were not cumulative but I didn't check
whether the same was true for WSS.

I'll let you know how I get on

When I start from a base SPS 2003 install, I follow it up with WSS SP1 --
SPS SP1 -- WSS SP2 -- SPS SP2 and it always gone well.

Hope that helps,

Any help will be gratefully received!!

I am just in the process of installing a copy of sharepoint portal server
in
a development environment. The platform I'm running is Windows 2003 SP1
with
SQL 2005 database backend. I'm installing an original copy of SPS 2003,
and
then insalling the service packs (SP2) for both sharepoint services and
sharepoint portal.

This went smoothly(ish) and all seemed to work fine, until I tried to
create
a new site which threw a JavaScript error along the lines of
"WebForm_PostBackOptions is undefined".

After trawling Microsoft and Google I found several references to the KB
article 894903. I've tried following the steps in this article but I seem
to
be getting tripped up when trying to execute the following command line:

stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://URLOftheVirtualServer

I keep getting an 'invalid command line option' - after viewing all the
command line options it appears that the upgrade operation is not valid in
the version of stsadm that is installed.

Any suggestions? (please...)
