The WSS newsgroup is microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices (for future
reference)
This is one of those crazy things where it is a known problem with a known
solution but where Microsoft have withdrawn the KB article.
This WSS FAQ item refered to the original Microsoft KB article
http://www.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=99
and suggesting reading the French or Italian versions which then still
hadn't been withdrawn, but it seems that the loophole of foreign language
versions of the article still being available is no longer the case.

P.S. Maybe (I don't know) an upgrade to WSS SP2 will help - after all it
*was* a known problem...
P.P.S. That FAQ item also refers to another KB article if you have checked
out the item. (end of the FAQ item) As far as I know that KB article is
still valid.

We are running SharePoint Services and have recently upgraded to Office
2003.
We are using SSL authentication.
Whenever accessing an Office product such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint
from
a SharePoint site, we are prompted to authenticate again, even though we
have
permission to access the site and have already been authenticated when
signing on. This is not an issue if we are opening a different file type
such as a PDF file or text file.
What are the possible causes and solutions for this problem?
