Re: Restore SharePoint Server backup to New Server

Hello Mates,

I am trying the same by taking the backup of XXX_PROF, XXX_SERV, and
XXX_SITE dbs. But here the problem is after restoring the database I am
seeing the old URLs in the Database. That is when i am restoring the DBs from
ServerA to Server B it is showing the ServerA urls
(http://servera/sites.....) and after restoring when i browse the sites it
say file not found.

You are not trying to restore the configuration database are you? You
should only be restoring the _PROF, _SERV, and _SITE dbs. When you install
and configure SharePoint on the new server it will create a new config DB.
Then you click on create a portal, restore a portal, and point at the
restored DBs.

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem while restoring the backup from old server to a new
server (with different Names). I tried it with MDF & LDF and could able to
take backup from old server and restoring it to a new server but not able

open the site. When I see the tables in the Database I am finding my old
server URLs. I even tried with SPS backup and restore utility with that
utility also I could able to backup but not able to restore and its
throwing
any error that I version is different but when I see that its one that and
same only.


Can you please help me how to restore SPS & WSS Backup to another Server
with different name... or do we need to keep the same name by keeping old
server offline and connecting the new server to the domain.

Basically we are planning to change the server because my current SPS
server
is having hardware problem and now we have got new server so I am planning
to
change the server by taking the backup from the Old Server and to new
server.

Can you please help me out in this regards
