Re: Document Libraries

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thats a good question. I have never tried this but it was posted a while ago
as a script for doing just that. You may find other coders out there who
have tried to do this as well.

Thanks for your input... it is a good trick... however, is it true that I
will have to rely on users to click on the "MySite" in order for their
"MySite" to be created... or is there a way to automatically create a
MySite
once a user is allowed access to the portal??

Thanks

The Administrator of My Site who by default is the the User of the Site
can
add new users to access their private documents ( private site )if they
wish. So by making HR users contributers on my site then they could put
documents in the users private folders. the only problem with this is
that
you are relying on the users to add the HR people.
You can code the HR group to have access using a white paper written by
Todd
Bleeker at Mindsharp , www.mindsharp.com , sign up for the premium

( free ) and look for the white paper on Todd's Custom Site definition.
This
talks through using execute url so that everytime a new My Site is
created
the HR people would automatically be contributers.
Unfortunately if the My Sites are already created this does not help
either
and it is back to one at a time although there is no reason you could not
write a program to do this as well.

Thanks for your input,

I played around with "My Sites" for a little bit... and it seems to me
like
an Administrator or a designated person (HR) cannot access other
private
libraries for other users, only their own... The reason why I want
these
private libraries is for this HR person to go into each employee's
library
and put some documents only meant for that specific employee... I don't
think
My Site allows other users to see
or upload documents to the private library....

Does that make sense??

Every Employee can have a My Site - Every My Site has a document

so my question is why rebuild the wheel when there is already a
mechanism
in
place to do what you want , or are there reasons you do not want to
use
mysites ?

Hi,

I'm trying to accomplish the following:
I want to create an area in Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 called
"Private
Folders". Inside this area I want to have have mutiple document
libraries,
one for each employee in the company. An employee should only able
to
see
one
document library, which is his own.

I figured out a method which is to create a sub-area for each
employee
within the Private Folders area... then I can change the sub-area
security
to
only allow access to the employee (owner). The only thing I didn't
like
about
this method is that sharepoint creates each sub-area at the root....
in
other
words, when you use a web browser you don't really care since you're
just
clicking links... but I want to create a hierachy like Private
Folders-->Sub-area-->Doc Library so our HR person can access all of
the
doc
libraries via \\server\Private Folders\
The method I figured out creates all of the sub areas at the root...
and
since I have more areas everything is under \\servername.... which
makes
it
hard to navigate for our HR person.

Any ideas??
