Re: Searching for the Search Utility (web part)

It is an SQL server. I will have to check with my control center on Monday.
This is not at the top of their list right now. I'll check it out thanks!

Ok, then your problem is WSS site search is not working. A couple of
questions. Are you using SQL Server or MSDE for your databases? Is full
text enabled? To find out:
Go to WSS central administration
Then under component configuration click "configure full-text search"
Then check the box beside "Enable full-text search and index component" and
click ok

What happens?

http:\\sharepoint\sites\SITENAME As far as I now these are private sites

Yes from the portal (which is made up of areas and sub-areas) you can
create
WSS sites and WSS sub-sites. You can also create a stand alone WSS stie
even though you have portal. So do you have something like?

WSS Team Site
http://www.sharepoint911.com/testsss/default.aspx

or

SPS Portal
http://www.sharepoint911.com/testsss/default.aspx

I am pretty sure it is SPS????? Our Control Center created the root
level
site for me I'm developing it and the sub-site. I have gone to HELP -
about
- it says SPS. I've only been at this for two weeks; please forgive my
fumbling, ignorant questions. Does SPS create wSS subsites?

Hmmm....maybe I am making the wrong assumption that he is referring to
a
SharePoint Portal top level rather than a WSS Site. Bill, can you
clarify?

If he does not have full text search enabled in WSS wouldn't this
prevent
the part from showing up?

Unless someone has changed your templates it is part of the default
SharePoint configuration.

It doesn't show up on any of the sites as far as I know. Your Go
to:
C:\...
is on the server I assume?? If so I'll have to get someone else
to
look
at
it, as I don't have rights on the server itself. I don't think it
was
loaded
when SPS was installed, is this possable? I've added every web
part
with the
word search in the name but nothing is working.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

First I would ask what happened to the template to get rid of the
search web
part? Does the search box show up in any other areas? Second,
yes
you can
re-add the web part as needed to the templates without having to
rebuild all
the sites.

Go to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\SPS

(substitute 1033 for whatever language code you are using and
this
also
assumes you accepted the default file location) and you will see
the
file
named "default.aspx". I think the web part you need to add is:

<SPSWC:RIGHTBODYSECTIONSEARCHBOX id="RightBodySectionSearchBoxID"
runat="server" EnableCache="true" CacheTimeout="1000"
FrameType="None" SearchResultPageURL="SEARCH_HOME"
SupportThemes="true"></SPSWC:RIGHTBODYSECTIONSEARCHBOX>

The search isn't part of the default site (template) when it is
created.
Can it be fixed or do we have to reinstall SPS?
Do I have to rebuild all the sites and subsites after this is
fixed
to
include this web part or can it just be added to a given site?
