Re: how to move documents library

You are correct , the only way to get the nice features such as Roll up web
parts is to spend $$$'s which can be very frustrating. However do not forget
that in Areas you have the ability to use Grouped Listing which have the
ability to present documents from any of your WSS sites in the Site
Directory. These Grouped Listing are actually pointers to the original
document in WSS and not a copy of it but then do the users ever care where
it actually. No they just want to find it easily and click on it and open
it.
This is why the Design of your Portal Areas and WSS sites is so important so
this relationship works correctly. There really should be no need to have
Collaborative Doc Libraries in Portal when you can use web parts like
Grouped Listing.

I'm finding this out oh too well. My idea was to create WSS sites for
each department then collaborate their data with SPS, but you're
correct -- SPS does a very poor job a collaborating data between WSS
Sites. I'm having to do all sorts of manual scripts in the background
to copy files from WSS document libraries to SPS Subarea document
libraries. And it seems when I do find a plugin or some 'feature'
online to add the functionality I need to SPS, the person/company who
wrote it wants TONS of money. I've seen plugins to sync document
libraries going for $1500 or more! I guess there's no Open Source
programmers using Sharepoint :-)
