Re: Cannot complete this action.

I have no idea , also you may run in to Microsoft Support issues if you
edited the SQL table directly.
You could try and change the Site Admin via the command though if the Gui is
giving an error -

Admin states that he cannot restore my user account. I understand that
sharepoint uses the sid of the user, is there anyway to change the sid
listed
in sharepoint from the SQL side??

If you want this user back get your Active Directory guys ( or yourself
if
that is you ) to do a AD restore of that user account from your last
system
state backup. You will need to delete your new account first. The reason
you
cannot just recreate a new user with the same name is that each new user
gets a unique sid and Sharepoint is referencing the old sid. Site
collection
ownership is one of those times that this is checked against. Was this
user
also your Sharepoint Administrator or do you have a seperate account that
is
the sharepoint Admin ? When you are trying to go to manage site
collection
owners which account are you logged as ?

Here is an article on restoring a user account -

The account for the site collection owner of my intranet site some how
became
deleted in AD. I have recreated the user, but now when I try and
access
the
site I get the "Cannot complete this action." error. I tried to goto
manage
site collection owners and change the owner, but this action errors out
with
the same error.

Any Suggestions?
