Disabling the Active Directory profile import

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

We have an intranet based on SharePoint Portal Server and CMS Server.
We use two audencies based on Active Directory groups to target web
parts on the start page.
Our Active Directory does not today contain that much information
except namn and e-mail so the "My Site" is currently pretty empty and
we would rather use the WSS built in profile page for now. I have
learnt that we can do this by disabling the Active Directory profile
import but before I do that I want to make sure that it does not cause
any other side effects that not updating the user profiles.
I want to know that our audencies and other rights based on AD groups
will still work after I shut down the profile import and delete all
user profiles in SharePoint.
