Re: Secco Calendar Web Part

Ed,
My first search regarding a calendar web part pointed me inmediatly to the
Programs Unlimited, Inc Calendar Web Part. All google results said there was
a absolutly free version with fairly enough features. I downloaded it and it
keeps opening IE with a message that says "Thank you for evaluating ..,
etc."
So it's more like a demo, unless I'm missing something about it (Am I ?)

So doing some more searchs I came to this
http://msd2d.com/Content/Tip_viewitem_03.aspx?section=SharePoint&id=b99c9f15-c246-47cf-b848-5bebb83b66b9
on MS2D (I think Secco is the surename of one of the creators).

This is a complete C# solution that seems to be great, but as far as I could
see you have to "provide the inteligence" to the web part by modifying the
code and working with events, something that goes far beyond the mount of
energy I have right (SP took it all away)

I think I've said this before : I really expect Microsoft to come along with
a set of more complex webparts included in the box, and supported by them.
Each time I wonder about a possible solution to some limitation, I end up
with some extremily complex workarround compared to the issue to be resolved
(again, like killing an ant with a bazooka). I can't transform a simple and
straightfoward portal into a terrorific mix of custom ASPX files, non
microsoft web parts, FrontPage "do not use me" modifications, etc., etc. My
client needs a solution, and he can't hire a guru nor even depend on
newsgroups to achieve his business goal.

Also true : the state I am in regarding SP is because I'm not a .NET
developer, a master in XML, ASPX, Web Services, FrontPage, etc., and I've
been asked to implement a Portal. Next time I'll be more prepared (and
learned !)

Anyway, if anybody arrives to any conclution regarding this "Secco
calendar", please let me know

I still like SharePoint and it's surrounding technollogies, I only expect it
to be more "compact" and "self contained" in the future,
Regards
Ed
