omit the question about the event viewer ;-)
the event viewer display nothing special when I try to change the account used to access the configuration database.
also I don't see anything special at the SQL Server level during this step.

its an old installation. I try to change the login to (I hope) solve SQL server issues.
SQL Server is on the same server as portal server.
This account can open locally or remotly all databases.
This account works fine on 99.9% of the queries made to the server, only 1 unidentified request cause the login error in SQL server.
where is the eventvwr?

Are you sure that SharePoint can access the SQL server over the network? Have you checked eventvwr for error messages?

I receive some login failed error to SQL Server which come from Portal Server 2003.
So I want to make sure that the login used in the Configuration Database Administration Account is correct.
but when I try to change it (or reapply the password) I receive this error :
Error accessing database. Verify that the database server name and the instance name (if present) are correct. Also, ensure the configuration database administration account has sufficient permissions on the server or instance and the service corresponding to your SQL Server instance is running.
My login is the administrator account and this user as access to all the databases. (its a domain admins member)
any idea?
thanks.
Jerome.
