Search returns no result

I have just installed Sharepoint Portal 2003 Server, fresh install on
Win2003 Server + SQL 2000 SP3 + .NET 1.1.

Now, everything seems to be working, but when I uploaded a .DOC or .TXT file
to the "Document Library", but when I did a search, it returned no result.

Here is the stuff I have done already:
- In admin tool, I re-clicked the "Full" on Portal and Non-portal to make
sure the index is updated
- I made sure the Document Library has checked the "include this in search"
tab
- I added the title to the documents
- I checked the Services in Control Panel, the SP search index engine is
running, but Index Server is not.

What did I do wrong? that was a default installation!!!!
