Problems creating an audience from AD group names containg underscores

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Has any one run into this problem:

I have AD security groups that contain underscores "_" in place of spaces,
for the group names. When I try to create SharePoint Audience based on user
membership in these groups which contain underscores in the group name, the
server never adds the users from these groups and returns a "no error"
status on the compilation screen. If I remove the underscores from the
group names, everything seems to work. Is this a bug in SharePoint? I find
nothing in the documentation that states that you can not use these
characters with SharePoint. This is a big deal because a large part of my
security groups contain spaces and these groups are used through out the
domain in scripts and other various places.

any info would be nice.
