I have been trying to do this on my network, and conclude that you can't do it.
Alternate URLs in SPPS will not help either, as they are limited to just pointing
to the portal.
You are stuck with having URLs of the form http://Arachnea/BlackWidow. If your
managers bitch about this, tell them to wait till they have created 20 sites, and
suddenly the URL becomes http://Arachnea/B1/FunnelSpider, assuming the
FunnelSpider is your 21 site. They really need to quit obsessing about URLs and
concentrate on the organization of the Sites area.
