Personally, I see this as a major shortcoming for SharePoint, and I hope
that it is not just the first of many.
The ability to open links in new windows is pretty fundamental, and, in my
opinion, should be out-of-the-box functionality. (Not only is it
fundamental, it could have EASILY been included in the original web part,
had anyone had the insight to do so).
We are early adopters of the MSCRM platform as well, which is riddled with
bizarre design decisions, poor programming, and strange inconsistencies.
(For example, you cannot include an & in any text within certain--not all,
but certain--fields; mail-merges performed within CRM attach closed
activities to their parent accounts, but do not attach the merged letter; no
suppoty for many-to-many relationships; no ability to order views in view
listings; ....).
But CRM is first version. I hope that this is not what I am in store for as
I explore SharePoint further. If so, I doubt my company will be adopting the
application.
