I've tried a couple of times to use the SPS Backup & Restore program to
backup and restore a portal from one server to another. The backup of
course succeeds but when I try to restore on the remote server, I can't edit
the settings for the SITEDBS. The Status tab indicates the following: "A
portal site using the site databse already exists".
The restore server is remote but connected via VPN so I tried to alter its
hosts file in order to see if it would work if it couldn't recognize the
primary URL for the portal being restored but this didn't help matters.
I've been able to copy the relavent DBs from the one server to the other
using SQL server which requires of course that I detach them first. More
limiting is the fact that the indexes (of which I have many) can't be backed
up and restored in this manner.
What can I do in order to complete a FULL backup and restore of a portal
site and its indexes from one server to another?
Thanks for any input and/or advice.
