You are absolutely correct. On my way in this mornong I was wondering if
there was a Mocrosoft article on this. I am working on your suggestion now
and will let you know the result.
Yes, I plan to do a complete fresh installation once I am done with this.
NOTE TO SELF: Never remove Sharepoint services before removing Sharepoint
Portal Server.
