How to hide directories?

Hi,

I need to be able to restrict the files/directories visible when someone
tries to edit a hyperlink in a document in a document library or when they
browse for documents using Windows explorer. Currently
there are loads of things related to sharepoint which I don't want visible,
and it'll only confuse the users. I can see things like:

-private
Image Library
images
Lists
default.aspx
C1,C2....C10

All I want to see is the documents/folders in the document library. Is there
any way to limit the visibility of these extra files/folders?
Or is there another way to do this?
TIA,

Paul Ibison
