I am doing some fairly significant tweaking of the pages within WSS sites on
an SPS 2003 installation.
Along the way, I decided it would be best to use FP 2003's Dynamic Template
feature. It makes life a lot simpler for me when I need to make changes.
However, when I do change a WSS created page into a Dynamic Template page, I
get messages regarding WSS specific elements on the page which I believe I
should have a better understanding of, since they are a bit ominous, even
though in the final analysis, everything seems to work just fine.
The message I get on the Template page goes something like this:
WebPartPages:SettingsLink - The
Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SettingsLink class does not derive from
the Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPart class and therefore cannot be
imported or used in a WebPartZone control.
Interestingly enough, the elements that are displaying this message, such as
the settings link, have not been placed in a WebPart Zone. They are in a
non-editable region of the Template however.
Am I going to regret doing this at some point in the distant or
not-too-distant future???
Or, is this just a warning on the DWT page, that gets resolved when the
pages that use this template get merged? Obviously, this has something to
do with .Net server side code. My uneducated guess is that things should be
O.K., they certainly seem to work fine now, however I certainly would like
to hear a second opinion from someone who has a better understanding of the
underlying architecture than I do.
Thanks in advance ...CM
