Enable advanced search administration mode

I want to 'Enable advanced search administration mode' to
see if it will help with a problem I have having indexing
a site (problem posted elsewhere in list)

But it says it can't be undone - just making sure there
are no dire consequences if I choose to go for the mode.
What are the pros and cons? Has anyone done this yet?
